Daman possesses a rich and multi - faced cultural heritage. Dance and Music are very much part of the daily life of Damanite. Here is a true synthesis of cultures - tribal, urban, European and Indian. This metaphorical blend is reflected in the traditional dances of Daman. Various Portuguese dances are well conserved and still widely presented. Tribal dances with sharp social remarks are much in fashion. The people of Daman are not different from the people in the adjoining Gujarat area. They have same outlook and the same customs and traditions. The people of the territory live according to the Hindu system prevalent in adjoining Gujarat territory and the customs of birth, marriage, blessed thread and other rituals are observed.

The people belonging to Daman take part in a number of well known festivals. Two main festivals of the place are Garba Festival and Folk Dance Festival. The young generation of the region participates in the Garba Festival. They dance wearing gorgeous dresses.  The Folk Dance Festival is a very significant part of the cultural life of Daman and Diu. Nariyal Poornima is one of the foremost festival of Daman. Nariyal Poornima marks the commencement of the fishing season and the people of Daman flock to the sea-shore to offer coconut to the mighty Gods who preside over wind and water. Nariyal Poornima is a day of joy; feasting and partying Hundreds of tourists come to Daman to witness a variety of colorful water sports and to attend the cultural program.
